Amazon goes to extraordinary lengths to prevent workers from joining a union. There are many reports of Amazon intimidating and forcing workers to attend anti-union propaganda meetings. It even uses ex-FBI agents and the notorious firm Pinkerton to spy on its own employees.
Reports in the press stated that Amazon spent huge amounts running an anti-union campaign in Alabama recently – see this report in Truthout.
Sharon Graham, Unite the Union Executive Officer, has written to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos demanding that they sign a declaration of neutrality – Amazon ‘must let workers join unions without fear’ reported the BBC.
